First, you should learn how money works. Take it slowly. Don't rush to the bookstore and buy 14 books about money and investing and finish them all on one week.
You can just do some Google search about investing and the stock market and take note of the technical terms. You can also start reading the business section of your favorite newspaper. You don't need to understand every word at first. In time if you just continue on this track, you will totally understand what the experts are saying.
It's also helpful that you ask someone who is already doing some investing. But don't rely on him or her alone. You should still continue your self-study about money and investing.
Second, you should continue to invest in yourself. You should realize that it's not all about the amount of money you can invest. In the investment world, there are risks and if you're not familiar with them, you're doomed to failure.
It's equally important that you know where you're placing your money as how much you're putting in. That's why it's critical that you educate yourself first before you start with the actual investing.
