Generosity in tough times

It's natural for us to think of ourselves first especially on this times of economic struggle. Our dear jobs are in danger. We have our family to feed, debts to pay, and regular and necessary expenses to keep ourselves alive and be above the level of our peers (having the newest gadget, a brand new car, new designer clothes, etc.).

We often prefer receiving and we also want to stop there, that blessings should be coming to us continuously and that we should never waste them by giving some to fellows. We think that we struggled and worked hard for those rewards and blessings, and it's very unfair if we just give them away.

It's very hard to practice generosity these days. Receiving should be the priority, ignore giving, very rich people should take care of that. I read somewhere that what you give multiplies in value when it comes back to you. As a consequence, if you want money, give it or help others make money.

Giving and receiving are always together. When you receive the blessings and keep them to yourself, you are actually stopping more blessings to come to you. It is very unfair to keep your blessings and talents to benefit yourself. Use them to benefit others, just as others were given those things to benefit you.
